How the "S" Cookie came to be at Tripician's Macaroons Retail Bakery & Confectionary
How the 'S' Cookie came to be one of the new cookies at Tripician's Macaroons Retail Bakery and Confectionary. At the onset of this new baking project, it was evident to me that I must include family-recipe cookies in our new collection. That being said I went through two ziplocs-full of recipes from home my mom handed directly to me long ago. I searched through them, some newspaper cut-outs, some old magazine ones taped on index cards, lots of memories. The ones that stir me, the ones I treasure, are the hand-written ones, some from my mom and some from my grandmother. These are my family's legacy. I came across a scrap paper in my grandmom's hand writing from 1974. It simply said "S" at the top and then a list of ingredients in her somewhat shaky cursive writing. Nothing more. I remembered all the cookies she'd make each holiday and the 'S'-shaped one was one of them. I figured this had to be that recipe. As I do with all the recipes at Tripician's, I entered it into the spreadsheet template so it could be multiplied out for multiple-batch baking. We rearranged the ingredient list in an orderly fashion of what goes in first, etc. and followed with fashioning the "how-to" instructions. Once we got to the kitchen it seemed easy enough. We mixed the dough, weighed out pieces and rolled them out, I jotted down notes as we went along. It all turned out beautifully. It was a most touching moment to see the golden egg wash glistening as we took them from the oven. I was most pleased. I am so happy to be able to share these with everyone, too. Mom and Grandmom approved ... indeed.
